Microsoft releases the iOS app for SharePoint

Sticking to its Cloud-first, mobile-first mantra, Microsoft released the long overdue mobile app for SharePoint. Currently it is available only for iOS with other applications probably on the roadmap.

This app works for both Online and On-Premises versions of SharePoint. You can read more about the app and the functionality here.

What does this mean for Project Server / Project Online?

Currently the iOS app for SharePoint is not designed to work completely with Project Online/Project Server.

As you can see below, you can find and bring up the PWA site, it will show the mobile version of the site in the app.

Even the Project Sites (SharePoint sites attached to each project in Project Online/Project Server), show as mobile sites.

The documents can even be found and used across all sites through integration with OneDrive.

However, take solace. The Project team at Microsoft is working hard to bring mobile apps to Project Online for team member activities. Hopefully, those apps will be further enhanced to accommodate full site operations.

Until then, you could still use the SharePoint App for quick access to your projects, documents and people within Project Online/Project Server, even if it is not the best user experience.
